I think, that the installing Gentoo is very hard for an unexperienced 
user, but, they also provide an excelent handbook(btw, why do handbooks 
are called handbooks, if most of them is 400 pages???), and easy to 
follow. I think it is like this to make Gentoo a more broad distribution, 
were you can have a good unexpensive server setted up and running with 
exactly just what you want. Or you can have a bleeding edge desktop. 
Although I think that for a desktop, for a new Linux user, Ubuntu would 
be bether.
