I have the problem that I often cannot, from my Linux box, find Windows
machines on our Windows network. They are often lazy about putting
things into DNS. The Windows methods of locating machines is the default
here. I would have thought that there would be a way for this Windows
info to be accessible via DNS without the admins having to duplicate the
info in DNS. But that is what they do here. With DNS being a 'is anybody
really using this stuff' system. Of the 5000+ in the company, I think
there are three that use Linux. Even though we have an enterprise
license from Novell that includes SUSE for anyone who wants it. And even
though one of our more profitable products (income per person) is Linux
based.
