Can't speak for other users, but "reveal codes" is a tool for trouble
shooting formatting problems.
If the usual user interface doesn't give me what I need, "reveal codes"
helps.

To illustrate: I needed to make up a form and used "make it fit" to keep
the form to one side of paper. When I printed it the output was not
quite right. The problem was with the way WP uses fonts; there are
print fonts and display fonts, and sometimes I don't achieve WYSIWYG.
The only way I was able to fix the problem, which was not a terribly
difficult or time consuming process, was to open the reveal codes window
and directly edit the formatting codes.

I've played with Lyx and appreciate what an experienced user can do with
it; for my needs at the moment the learning curve is too steep. My WP
learning curve went flat more than a decade ago. I think that is why WP
users are so loyal. As I mentioned previously, transitioning from DOS
to Linux was easy.

BTW there is a large community of users running DOS WP5/6 under
dosemu. Printer drivers are available for many new printers too. The
DOS printers work with Linux with only a minor file name edit.
