Our preference drives (some of) us to considerable effort to keep this
old standby viable.

Another feature WP8 has is "make it fit." There is no other Linux word
processor with this feature; at best (or worst) MS Word running under
CrossOver or VM Ware is the only other option.

Anyhow, while writing this I had an inspiration and checked the SxS
how-to's. I found a post from someone who got WP8 to run in FC1. His
fix was merely to install ld.so-1.9.5-13. Monkey see, monkey do.

I found the RPM an installed it; had to use old fashioned terminal rpm
-Uvh since on my install the package manager (pirut) complains I have no
network connection: "cannot find a valid baseurl for repo:core."

No joy, unfortunately.

While I'm warming to FC6, the lack of old faithful Kpackage manager is
a bit of a jolt. However, I did find a package install tool in the
Gnome desktop; it confirmed my ld.so rpm was installed. It seems to me
that FC pays more attention to the Gnome desktop than to KDE. (Not
really complaining, mind you. The FC6 Gnome desktop appears to be
nicely put together.)
