[Linux-users] ADMIN: moving the mailing lists

All:
Some of you might recall that when the lists were first formed, they ran on my
personal server (along with everything else) and that eventually, we split up
the services and moved them around to different servers (thanks to the
graciousness of various people here).

I recently purchased a hosted Xen server, and as such am planning on moving
services to this new machine. This is not a comment on any of the services
offered by the generous people hosting our stuff now. It's simply a decision
to put things on a commercially hosted server, instead of various people's
personal machines/connections.

I had planned on moving services slowly over the coming weeks/months, but the
recent unfortunate hardware issues experienced by David have caused me to
reconsider my timeline. As such, I'll be moving the mailing lists to the new
server over the weekend. All of this should be fairly transparent to the list
users, but I wanted to give a head's up.

Also, it would appear that we do not, currently, have a full roster of list
members. David is working diligently to recover this info, but I'd ask that
you reach out to your friends and insure that they resub in the coming days.

I expect the lists and DNS to be correctly pointing to the new host by the
time work resumes after the US holiday (at the latest).

I'd like to take a minute to thank David B for hosting our email all this
time. He's provided us a lot and asked nothing in return. Thanks David!

I'd also like to thank the list members for sticking with us. This community
wouldn't exist w/o you, and the list content is some of the best of all the
lists I'm on. Please bare with us as we strive to improve our service
offerings.

Thanks, and have a great weekend/holiday!
