dumb wireless connection question

I have a Linksys WRT5G wireless access point and I can get a connection on
a laptop through a double-brick wall and several dry-wall(in australia we
call it Gyprock) partitions. The signal strength isn't fantastic but it's
fine for browsing the internet.
