Just to toss in a few good words about a spam filter you don't hear much 
about:  DSPAM

I ran SA for a long time, and spent a lot of time twiddling with rules, 
whitelists, and blacklists ad nauseum.  Then I switched to DSPAM which has 
about a 97% hit rate without any twiddling at all.  There really are no rules 
to mess with and once you train it (just feed it some spam) it goes from 
there without intervention.
