Dear average schmo,

That's the point, it's all coming to a halt and everything "Should Just
Work" (TM) and become rock solid, except for security releases. I'm
excited as heck about it. It's been like getting on the back of a
snorting Brahma Bull in the chute... you know beforehand you'll be in
for on helluva ride and will be even more glad when it's over. That
announce was the equivalent of calling in the clowns to spread sawdust
on the bloodstains and feces. Well... sorta, you get the drift.
Yippy Ki Yay!

Kreskin Predicts these things to come:

Store bought Java, now open sourced, will be folded in, replacing their
in-house offering that was dodgy at best.

More in-house work on kernel drivers.

Laptops have not always done what they should do re: video displays and
sleep power down modes. There will probably be much more work towards
that area.

Data conversion from Oracle to ?

RPM fixed or replaced. Same with YUM.

As they mentioned, more emphasis on the repositories with an eye towards
better teamwork and cohesion. That will be like herding the proverbial
cats.

I predict there will be more emphasis on desktops and new users... to
woo the college aged crowd. Let's face it, no one needs compiz for a
mail server. It's there for a reason. Users. Even alsa has behaved
better under FC6.

More multimedia for sure. Mac has the handle on multimedia creation.
That needs to happen for Linux and I predict Fedora/RedHat goes there.
If a lot of original creation can come from the linux camp, then the ogg
format will gain wider acceptance for both audio and video, which is not
a bad thing. "It's Good For Everyone". (TM)

Feel free to add to this "list of Things To Come In The Future." Ric
