The last time I made a kernel updated was two days ago when I posted
this problem and got Lonni reminding me about changed
hardware/bios/kernel. After running the update, I could shut it down
fine then last night or yesterday morning I found this problem happen
again. Because I just made an update two days ago, so I can be sure that
I did not change anything under Bios or kernel.
This is my "emergency" development system, 2-month old, which I use
mostly for my app coding so I has been trying not to change anything at
the system level, unless I have to, in order to keep my environment
intact. The shutdown had been working great until last week.

I think for newer systems and kernels, this problem is fading away. It
works fine for me with RH9, RHEL 3 & 4, Suse 10. Ah, for FC6 also. Just
tried it yesterday on the IRC server :)
Thanks, Mike.
