Vu,

-	Have you made any changes to the BIOS (upgrade or configuration)?
-	Have you upgraded your kernel (new binary package or recompile)?
-	How old is your system?

The problem has to be with one of the above, BIOS, kernel, or hardware. I was 
reading somewhere recently what a sorry piece of work is ACPI, so my money 
would be on some subtle conflict between the BIOS & the kernel. You might 
review your BIOS setup & kernel configuration for possible a 
misconfiguration.

Good luck! I had a system a few years ago, that I finally just resigned myself 
to powering off manually. I never could get it to work properly. But since i 
rarely shut off my systems it wasn't really a problem.
