Extract it wherever you want, its installed.

Perhaps you're missing repositories?

That's where they come from.  That's the only place that ever has them 
complete, although I believe that there are debian packages that include 
them too.

Hard to say, since you didn't post any error messages or output.

That violates US laws.  Mandriva actually ships with some craptastic 
commercial DVD software, but then you're running Mandrival.
