Try reading HTML e-mails with mailx (`mail`).  Two things that will set me off:
1.  HTML e-mail (impossible to read with mailx).
2.  e-mails so large the attachment is obviously:
     a.  The Encyclopedia Brittanica
     b.  Several video DVDs
     c.  A 2 page or longer M$ Word document.

Mailers are a personal choice.  I prefer Sylpheed or using Firefox to
access gmail.  But when I'm at a non-GUI server or working somewhere
and just want to see my e-mails on my server, I ssh in and run mail.
I tend to just delete non text-only e-mails.

Don't take it personally.  I'm always obnoxious (although Llama gives
me a run for my money at times).  Helps to wear asbestos long johns
around here anyway. ;-)
