Probably due to APT's preprocessing.  When I build my repository, it takes 
some time to figure out what packages should be included (since I have 
different versions of the same packages), what their deps are, etc...

I don't know anything about YUM's process...  just a bit about APT, and I'm 
quite happy using APT.
