You *LIKE* receiving spam from armies of zombified Windows machines on
broadband connections????
Broadband providers have to deal with the realities of a user base that's
typically clueless (and support people who're probably not much better :-).
Their average customer is looking for the lowest price possible, and hasn't
any idea how to run a mail server, a web server, etc. much less the
security implications involved.
If you want better service and support, go with a provider that is prepared
to support you -- and expect to pay more for that service (TANSTAAFL).
