I would have expected it to show up on the desktop.
Or perhaps on the panel with the other devices that can be mounted etc.

Works fine on my FC5 box.  Where do you expect to see the USB stick
recognized that its not being recognized?  Does anything appear in dmesg
when you plug in the stick?
