Sadly, its slim pickings if you really want a company that cares about 
Linux at all.

HP has alot of linux clues, but only on the workstation & server side. 
Desktop & mobile products are all winders, all the time.  Dell only 
cares about Linux when some prospective customer with alot of $$$ wants 
it, and that's never on mobile (laptops) devices.  Apple's notebooks 
seem to run Linux well, but you're obviously not going to get any Linux 
support from them.  Toshiba & SONY have zero linux clues, and to make 
matters worse, most of their notebooks are highly proprietary beasts, so 
you're likely to run into a ton of bizarre problems in Linux-land.

None of this is to say that you can't run Linux on most notebooks, but 
there's really very little out there which is going to work completely 
with a high degree of confidence in Linux.  All I can suggest is go to 
linux-laptop.net and see what the brave soles who have done on their 
own, and hope for the best.
