In the "for what it's worth" department, about a year ago I setup a mail
server using the postfixadmin project as a basis for configuration. A
web interface was not really a part of the setup with postfixadmin and
ended up installing squirrelmail. After all the configuration issues
with postfixadmin, squirrelmail installed quite easily and to my
recollection requires no or minimal configuration after the install.
The postfixadmin project spelled out using courier-imap but after
getting familiar with the process, I would have rather used dove-cot as
it a base part of the distribution that I used.
To my knowledge, squirrelmail just requires an operable imap server
(service) to work with.
