It isn't the speed that kills.  It's the sudden stop when the drivers
run out of talent.

The crew chief on our race team had a '68 Mustang 390 GT, which was a
total handful for me, and I was far more prepared to handle it the the
average 16 year old who's daddy bought him a SS396 Chevy or some such --
then was surprised when Junior bought the farm in his supercar.

The American pony cars of the '60s and '70s had lots of power, but little
handling or brakes in factory trim, with the exception of the original
Shelby Mustangs and the Mopar Super Bees which were basically race cars
that had to be produced in sufficient quantity for homologation to race,

I've been driving Subaru Legacy wagons since 1990, and IHMO, they're
the best street vehicles I've owned.  They Just Work(tm), the all-wheel
drive goes any place I need to go within the realm of sanity, and have
been extremely reliable.  I replaced my 1990 last year with 250,000+
miles on it, and it had the original exhaust system, shocks, struts,
and even CV joints.
