That's part and parcel to my OAR project as well... one of the modules
is Family Roles. Ever done a real Genogram on your family? Gone back at
least 4 generations? It's tough to do when a kid doesn't know who daddy
is and has a Britney Spears type for a mom, with Auntie Rosie in the
wings. I'd love to see an Open Source Genogram project. A Genogram is
like a family tree with different lines connecting the generations in
descending fashion. You trace abuse, strong / weak / estranged
relations, addiction(s), disease(s), ... all kinds of general STUFF that
is passed down. Usually they are unacknowledged openly (root of Toxic
Shame: a belief that the core-being is flawed)
The thinking goes that if it is known that Great Grandad beat the
stuffings out of Grandpa and Dad beat the stuffings out of you, it
follows that Grandpa beat Dad, it just wasn't talked about, but the
lines show the probable missing lines. It's a picture, a flow chart.
Once you have it in front of you, in your hands, you have the daemons by
the scruff of the neck, instead of them having you. I did my own. What a
mess! <chuckles> Now I have the rascal by the tail. It wasn't pretty
though, by today's standards of "Polite Society". Back when, even your
neighbors could beat you. Nowadays, it's a "Boundary Violation".
This is the neat thing, just like all the tools we use in computers,
there are similar debugging tools for human beings. They've been around
for years, except the Doctorates cannot fathom why someone isn't as
educated as they are to learn from their PHD dissertation, or they just
don't do the "perspective taking" they spout off so much about. Or,
they're just plain scared to get into the trenches with the "unlovable".
Most people locked up do not read well at all. So, the cartoon / game
interface. Hot damn, it's easy to figure out. I'm "stuffing" my own
disappointmet at the apparent lack of an attempt to do so. I think I
found my game interface!!! Heck, it's even supported by RedHat! Whatta
deal.
Like you Bob, it hits a real sore spot. All those knuckleheads will be
getting out. They may move next door to you... either rehabbed, and will
make the best neighbor you ever had (as they will have been "treated"),
or not. Maybe I could contact the "Gramps" project folks. See if they
can generate a Genogram.
One more thing, if you want to give your kids and grandkids the best
present they will ever receive, do the Genogram and present the awful
truth about the humanity of the family. No blame, just the truth. If
anyone needs help doing one, feel free to contact me off list.
