Can recompiling your kernel lead to speed improvements

Collins isn't jumping in. Not that I mind using and recommending
Ubuntu (especially Kubuntu) for most purposes, but compiling your own
kernel for most modern distros (RedHat, Ubuntu, Debian) can be a
frustrating enterprise. I tried it once on an earlier *buntu release
and wasn't happy with the number of hoops to be jumped through.

Collins has gotten extremely lazy in his old age.  My PC is fast
enough to plow through even Gentoo updates in no time, so why would I
want to tinker with the kernel?
