No, I hadn't. I installed digikam and it recognised the camera as a
USB PTP class camera. However, it shows none of the pictures that
are on the camera...just dsp files.

I have to claim I don't have a clue about what PTP is or how to
access the camera in PTP mode...Apparently gphoto2 is supposed to
support these hp cameras though.
Ben asked if it was USB 1.0 or 2.0, it's 1.0.
Lonnie asked:
"Does the camera get recognized when connected via USB? If that
isn't working, then attempts to mount a non-existant device aren't going
to work. What do you see in dmesg output 30 seconds after connecting
the camera?"
Nothing in dmesg at all. The only reference to it is in messages:
Dec 6 19:52:10 grub kernel: usb 1-2: new full speed USB device
using uhci_hcd and address 5
Dec 6 19:52:11 grub kernel: usb 1-2: configuration #1 chosen from 1
choice
Dec 6 19:53:32 grub kernel: usb 1-2: USB disconnect, address 5
Is this thing supposed to be mounted like a hard drive? (from a post
on the linux lists Italy that google turned up) How would I use gphoto2
to get the pictures off of it? Daburned newfangled contraption :)
Regards,
Dan
