I bought about a dozen shares in the fibre optics company I worked at 
JDS Uniphase www.jdsu.com around '99-'00 for about $85ea and then the 
dot com crash hit and they went to ~$2ea. Looking them up now they are 
selling at $*18.05ea. That will teach me to take part in an Employee 
Stock Purchase Plan... sigh.

The human reality of the crash was 300 people out of work and the 
Australian division closing almost over night.

Let's just hope they make the big find of cheap optical switching or 
whatever the next big discovery is and go back up.
