I gotta chime in here... There was a time, before kde 3.5, when kde was so
damn slow and nearly un-useable on legacy computers. However, these last few
drops, namely the 3.5 versions, it's absolutely bearable to work with on old
iron... like 486/100mhz laptops, etc.
I used to recommend XFCE on old iron, now I say "any of the later versions"
can be used effectively.
That said, I still use kde 2.1 on an old, "internal" server. Just nostalgia I
guess.
