I believe Oracle XE will run on both 32-bit and 64-bit Linux, but not sure
about the Oracle ToolSet.
My office SuSe workstation is a AMD-64 FX60 and I run Oracle XE. I did run
Jdeveloper for some testing but I am not sure if I run it on this
workstation or not. ( I ran Jdeveloper several months ago and decided to use
Sun Creator instead ).

They are talking that AMD is going to have a big cut-down price very soon
because of the new Intel Extreme Edition. If this is the case, I will select
AMD because the new Intel CPU has a very high price.
Regarding the dual-core and XE, XE will use only one CPU but you can still
get some advantages of the 2nd CPU for other things on your system.

Assuming that the most important thing on the server is Oracle XE, which
limits the database size to 4G, then perhaps DVD burner is good enough.
1 DVD for Oracle db, 1 for the system, 1 for the tools ?

Check the Oracle-XE newsgroup for threads of installations. Even with root
account, the instalation process may fails due to firewall and permissions.
I know the SELinux must be turned off during installation. I myself
experienced another problem when set umask to 0077.
