printing challenges

Dear List:

I am experiencing some trouble with printing. I'll lay out my system and ask
for possible solutions.

I have a small LAN running ethernet over UTP. My primary machine runs debian
3.1 (named 'SCOTT'), with deskjet 550c attached; the alternate machine (named 'SETH') runs Windows 98se and has a laser jet iiip attached.

I can print from SETH to the local laser jet, just fine. However when
printing to the laser from SCOTT, with a native linux app such as xpdf, the
job transfers to SETH's printer, but then halts, until I hit Continue. It
shows LC LOAD A4. I hit Continue and the job finishes printing.

I have gone back to setup for foomatic-gui, for CUPS at localhost:631 and
other man pages and README files, but can't find where one sets the default
size.

The other problem is that I can print locally from linux to my deskjet 550c
printer and the color works too, but I can't get this printer shared, to be
available to the windows 98 machine, to SETH.

Suggestions?

Scott
