The same principles apply to wires.  The way they are made, shielded, 
unshielded, twisted pair, coax, etc., are very significant in what they 
can do with a signal.  If you have power on the line (the guy right in 
front of you talking really loud) you can still "hear" high frequency 
noise (the blonde) on the line.  The problem is, what else on the power 
line will be affected by the blonde, and, if you are trying to listen to 
the blonde, what types of noise will interfere.

It still comes back to; saying a wire, is a wire, is a wire, is not a 
true statement.
