google language in firefox

When I try a google search in firefox I always get Portuguese as
interface language. I go to the Preferences page and English is already
selected. I save preferences for good measure and it works while firefox
is on. On restart, there comes the Portuguese interface again. 
I have cookies enabled.
This doesn't happen with mozilla.

What can I do? I don't like it when someone tries to choose for me...
