You want consistency in applications from Microsoft when they don't even
have consistency in parameters and returns for system calls between
different varieties and patch levels of Windows itself?
David Korn, author of the Korn Shell and uwin, system to provide Unix
functionallity under Windows, spoke to our Seattle Unix Group several years
ago on the development of uwin. He said that this inconsistency of Windows
API at the system call level was one of the major factors that made the
uwin project difficult.
