I have built the latest mplayer & gmplayer, when I run it I get the following:
rick at RSivernell:~> MPlayer 1.0pre7-3.3.4 (C) 2000-2005 MPlayer Team
CPU: Advanced Micro Devices (Family: 8, Stepping: 0)
Detected cache-line size is 64 bytes
CPUflags: MMX: 1 MMX2: 1 3DNow: 1 3DNow2: 1 SSE: 1 SSE2: 1
Compiled for x86 CPU with extensions: MMX MMX2 3DNow 3DNowEx SSE SSE2

vo: X11 running at 1904x1200 with depth 24 and 32 bpp (":0.0" => local display)
Setting up LIRC support...
mplayer: could not connect to socket
mplayer: Permission denied
Failed to open LIRC support.
You will not be able to use your remote control.
New_Face failed. Maybe the font path is wrong.
Please supply the text font file (~/.mplayer/subfont.ttf).
subtitle font: load_sub_face failed.

mplayer is in /usr/local with share/mplayer/font & skins symlinked to
/home/rick/.mplayer. I have dl the LIRC, it looks like it wants to modify the kernel
as when I do a ./configure it displays a dialog like a kernel bild. Do I really need
the LIRC? The socket problem is puzzling to me. This seems as if there is a setup
problem for mplayer. At this time I get two windows, one with nothing in it and an
empty dialog box, title says error. Running Suse 9.2 Pro with 2g Mem on aAMD64 cpu.

Any suggestion would be appreciated here.

cheers
