There was a time when Linux modules directories contained whitespace which
caused some nasty problems with early versions of Caldera's routines to
generate the initrd files for booting because the mkinitrd shell script
didn't properly quote arguments.
More recently, I've heard that Apple had a major problem with one of their
on-line updates when a script didn't quote whitespace in the update
scripts.
Any time one is working with networks containing Windows or Mac systems,
it's mandatory to assume that file and directory names contain whitespace,
and deal with it appropriately. This is why the gnu find command has the
``-print0'' option and xargs has ``-0''.
