in smb.cnf I have:
security = DOMAIN

where/how would i determine this?

In smb.cnf I have:
winbind use default domain = no

funny you should mention that, cause my winXP box died last night.  It
won't boot any more, so i'm fairly confident its not caching anything
right now  :)
