It's rather _obvious_ that Debian doesn't have an
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts directory. Neither does Slackware.
And about 30 seconds reading the init scripts tells me where
everything is. And if I can't find the init scripts, inittab tells me
where to look for them. This is not rocket science, just follow the
boot-up process.

(Note: it's been several years since I've looked at RH, so I might be
off a bit, but give me 90 secodns with an RH box and I can tell you
exactly where everything is)
In Debian derivatives look in: /etc/network/interfaces
In RH and drerivatives: /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-*
In Slackware: /etc/rc.d/rc.inet2

Why do you have to make things difficult that aren't?

Now I can see how you'd be confused in (it's either AIX or HP-UX)
systems that have the init.d directory below /sbin, but only until you
glanced at /etc/inittab.
