Depending on the distribution you're using (sorry I don't remember if 
you said in a previous post) there are a number of pop3/imap packages to 
choose from. Default on Redhat based systems was uw-imapd, but I believe 
newer versions of the distribution are using dovecot (just guessing 
here).  Take a look at http://freshmeat.net and search for pop3 and 
you'll find  a plethora of packages/projects to choose from.  Also, if 
you take a look at the release notes for the distribution you use there 
should be a listing of the packages that it contains.
