Depends on who's running it, how good they are, whether they have
enough capacity for the demand (how oversold they are), and if you can
live with asymmetric connectivity (use the lower number to base your
decisions on).

I own a DSLAM (I run one of the only private DSLAMs in Panama).  Once
properly configured, they give good service.  These are ATM devices
(from the modem to the DSLAM). So it's basically IP over ATM (IPOA)
unless your provider is using PPP, in which case he's using PPPOA. 
Either way, it should just work.

xDSL is probably better than wireless.  Wireless is an agregator,
whereas xDSL is a concentrator.  What this means is that you won't
loose the first packet or two as often on a DSL connection as on a
wireless connection.  That's being simplistic, but also realistic.
