I think you underestimate your youngest.  I had an almost four year old able 
to use a DOS prompt to get to the games he wanted.  (He was a little older 
when he was trying all the commands in the DOS manual, in order.  Fortunately, 
  Fdisk comes before Format, and I remembered the geometry for the drive.)

I am certain that if you used a GUI with some weight, your oldest would be 
playing games now.
