upgrading glibc on COL 3.1

I was using gcc-3.2.3 to build the glibc-2.3.4.

I am contemplating the idea of upgrading the old glibc in my COL 3.1
home server. So I am using spare harddisk to install COL 3.1 from
scratch and test the idea of building glibc from source, following your
instructions.
