newbie network question

OK.  Thanks for all of your help so far.  Clearly, this networking stuff 
is not something I have done before; simply used linux as a desktop box.

So I set up a Samba server on my linux box (on the SuSE 9.1 partition, 
using YAST) and I can command

findsmb

from either the linux box or the Mac and I see
the relevant samba server identified as being on my linux box.
However, when I "browse" the servers on the Mac, only my ~.local server 
appears (the mac itself) and not the linux box.

What I should do is not chew up the list with my questions, and go out 
and read a book, but if you have any last ideas about getting the linux 
box "volume" to appear on the Mac, via the samba server, I would 
appreciate it.
