Anyone here have any experience with jpeg2000 decoders?
I am trying to find an open source implementation. The few I have found
(jasper at http://www.ece.uvic.ca/~mdadams/jasper/ and openjpeg at
http://www.openjpeg.org/) are VERY slow. KDE 3.3 uses jasper, which is,
to be kind, odd.
The only commercial product I have tried is kakadu, But at A$11000, I am
still looking.
The two open source decoders take about 3 seconds to decode a 704x288
image. The commercial kakadu takes .08 seconds. This is a substantial
difference. The open source implementations cannot maintain real time.
IYAI, an interesting jpeg2000 capture (and CCIR playback!) card is
http://www.databuzz.co.uk/t_2000/index.htm It has Linux drivers.
