Gimp backups?

Jay, I've just gone over my entire system looking for anything that
might even look like a gimp backup to no joy. I use Gimp to create
overlays for various parts we design. I have several sub-directories
full of work in progress as well as work completed and have not noticed
any saved backups other than the ones I initiated.
