firefox-1.5 color madness

I just upgraded to firefox-1.5 (using the official tarball) on one of my 
systems, and i'm going mad with a new problem.

Whenever I highlight any text on a browser page, the highlighted text 
gets changed to red, and the background is also the same color of red, 
making the highlighted text 100% unreadable.  This was most definitely 
not happening with firefox-1.0.7.

I took a trip to 'about:config' and searched on 'color', and found that 
'browser.active_color' is set to #EE0000 (red), which is apparently the 
default.  However, I don't see anything that controls the color of the 
background text.

Anyone have any ideas?
