You're assuming we also use petroleum for heating. Dont know about others
but my folks use gas central heating.

But you're also assuming that the electricity used for the AC was not
generated from a fossil fuel-based power generation plant. One could
argue that using more electricity also contributes to increased power
generation requirements which also leads to more pollution, thus adding to
the problem.
