centos and ssh session timeouts and lockups

Ive seen this on links that get occassional congestion - I have a server
in London that I manage from here (New York) and Im often logged out
overnight. Using Cacti, I graphed the remote ping time and see that
sometimes it shoots up and Im usually disconnected during those...
