MIME type handling in firefox/thunderbird

I had a problem with firefox opening evolution when I clicked a mailto link. 
The solution was found in the gconf-edit setup.

I launched thte tool and found that mailto was set to evolution changed it 
to thunderbird and it then launched OK. I am GUESSING that if firefox checks 
out gconf for that MAYBE thunderbird dose something similar?
