MIME type handling in firefox/thunderbird

Interesting...

I usually save the file (always download to desktop), and edited as
needed bit it would be great if a given application could be used.

I read mimeTypes.rdf but is does not explicitly says what application to
use for a given mimetype, for example an "application/zip" is related to
<NC:externalApplication
RDF:resource="urn:mimetype:externalApplication:application/zip"/>
But I cant see this related to an application for example ark.

So where do I say that the application I want to handle a zip file is
ark for example?

J.
