Linux friendly inkjet printers?

The HP / Compaq merger has caused a lot ripples... Try getting printer 
parts when they are consolidating their operations and restructuring the 
supply chain .... eeesssh...

My brother has been bemoaning HP's acquisition of the compaq server 
range... The insight manager product(compaq server management tool) 
which was a solid C++ app has now turned into a hodge podge of java, 
sql, ssh etc.... which is slow and flakey...
