scriptable webcam software ?

The tool that i've been using for the past 2 years, camsrv, to control 
my Philips webcam no longer seems to work under FC3.  THe author's email 
address is bouncing.

So, i'm back to square one in trying to find a replacement tool.  I want 
something that is scriptable, in other words, not an X app.  I just need 
to use something that will take snapshots, preferable with some degree 
of control over size, quality.

Anyone have any recommendations?
