Exchange folders.pst conversion?

A client has brought me his windows 98 exchange message database on a dvd and 
has asked me to convert it to something that his linux desktop can use.

I've looked all over for a direct conversion utility to go from the 
proprietary database to anything normal with no luck what so ever. It would 
seem that all the solutions available require access to a windows machine to 
do either direct conversion to mbox then copying the messages to the linux 
box... 

Does anyone know of a direct conversion utility that would do what I need or 
do I have to install windows and exchange to do the conversion?
