That's excellent advice.  Granted Knoppix isn't all that responsive 
either, since it has to load things off the CD the first time they run.

I'd say either windoze is being windoze, or you've got a hardware 
problem, like the cache on the CPU is bad.  From your description it 
sounds like the box is swapping itself to death.
