Your assessment is correct. W2k was their best effort. And it has gone 
downhill since then.

That article, IMHO, was the brainless "repeat what I've heard" article 
typical of journalists that have neither the smarts nor willingness to 
do any serious investigation of a subject. Expect lots of these.
