X Cursors

I'm running xfce4 and wanted to change the cursors in the xterm windows.
I have green on black background (yes, I miss my greenscreen terminals
<G>) and the pointer is a black arrow pointing up to the left side. Of
course this is hard to see in my terminal window.
I've checked various man pages and jeeves and found I can do xsetroot to
change pointers but I have some questions
1. man xsetroot says there is a list of default - where do I find this
list?
2. Where do I make the changes permanent? Do I just change the
/etc/X11/app-defaults/XTerm file.
3. I notice xfce uses a X as a pointer. Where is that changed in xfce?
Thanks.
